Empower your teenager to manager their anxiety

Why This Book Matters

For Teens, Parents, and Educators Supporting Autistic & ADHD Young People

As parents and carers, our instinct to protect is fierce. We learn to anticipate anxiety triggers, smooth the path ahead, and shield our children from the pressures of a fast-moving world. It’s natural, especially when we see how anxiety can knock them sideways.

But as our children grow into teenagers, it becomes more important to help them take the reins. Teaching teens how to recognise and manage their own anxiety isn’t about stepping back; it’s about walking beside them as they build the confidence, self-awareness, and resilience they’ll need to carry forward into adulthood. This book gives them that start.

Why Self Managed Anxiety Matters for Teens

1. Recognising the Signs Early
When teens understand how anxiety shows up in their bodies and minds, they’re more likely to spot it early, before it spirals. Self-awareness allows for early, calm intervention rather than full-blown crisis management.

2. Growing Independence
Anxiety management is a life skill. Teens who learn to manage their own anxiety—by shifting thoughts, using routines, or adjusting sensory input—build real independence, preparing them for work, higher education, or life away from home.

3. Building Connection
Understanding that anxiety is a common experience can help reduce feelings of isolation. It can be powerful for teens to know they’re not alone, especially when they hear it from people who truly get it.

4. Taking Ownership
There’s a huge difference between being told what to do and deciding to help yourself. When teens are given tools they can actually use, they’re more likely to feel in control and motivated to keep going—even when things feel hard.

For autistic and ADHD teens, managing anxiety can feel even more complex. Well-meaning advice often feels like a demand. Unexpected change, sensory overload, or rigid thinking patterns can quickly escalate stress. That’s why this book speaks directly to them, in their language, from people who’ve been there.

Written by neurodivergent adults who know what it’s like to be an anxious teen, this book is packed with relatable examples, practical tools, and real-world strategies that make sense in their lives, not someone else’s idea of how they should cope.

Yes! This Is What Is Needed!

Over past months there has been backlash about anxiety. My son has diagnosed anxiety and has been offered superficial support. I got him this book having read the parent edition. He is already putting some of the ideas into practice and today arrived at school on time!

Excellent!

Very pleased with this book. I bought it for my nearly 12 year old granddaughter who will be going to secondary school in Septemberr. Her autistic brain told her she couldn't read it because she is not yet a teenager, but as her mum said - how will she know how to cope if she doesn't read it.

Fantastic!

I read it in 2 hours. I couldn't put it down. My whole family want to read it now too. Such a lot of interesting information. Written really well.

Extremely Insightful for a Teen Mum

Brilliant book, easy reading. Reading this book has meant I better understand my daughter 17 ASD, and can relate more to her issues. Also suggesting ways I can suggest to her to ease problems. Plus, when I ordered the non teen book by accident, it was easy to switch to the Teen version without hassle by emailing.
